IV ENEI Young Scholars Iniciative (YSI)'S

Call for Papers

The Young Scholars Initiative (YSI)’s Latin America and Complexity Economics Working Groups, in association with the Brazilian Association on Industrial Economics and Economics of Innovation (ABEIN1) and the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) would like to invite young scholar to submit their work to the I YSI/ENEI event “Latin American challenges to growth: innovation, productivity and economic complexity”. This activity is part of the IV ENEI2, the Brazilian National Meeting on Industrial Economics and Economics of Innovation, which is going to take place between the 10th and the 12th of September of 2019 in the Economics Institute of University of Campinas (Unicamp) in Campinas, Brazil.

The YSI/ENEI event offers an opportunity for young scholars to present the advancements of their research in a friendly and stimulating environment, receiving feedback and benefiting from the local scientific community reunited in the main event. The ENEI meeting is the most important event in Brazil for Industrial Economics and Economics of Innovation, with workshops, plenaries, parallel sessions, and social activities.

●        Topics of interest (related to Latin America):

1.                   Internationalization and global value chains

2.                   Technological & Innovative management, innovation strategies

3.                   STI and industrial policies

4.                   Innovation and technological change

5.                   Economic complexity/structuralism: product space, structural change, economic diversification, complexity indexes.

6.                   Models of complex economic systems: Agent-based modelling, Input-Output analyses and other quantitative/qualitative research methods related to economic complexity and/or economics of innovation applied to Latin American economies.

●        How to apply

Eligibility: graduate students and young scholars (5 years since earning a PhD degree).

Requirement: a full paper, a research proposal or a summarized version of the thesis related to one of the topics of interest and a motivation letter, both in English.

Size: between 6.000-10.000 words to the full paper. Up to 500 words to the motivation letter.

Submission process: http://www.abein.org/article-submission  in “Article Submission (YSI)”. The title of the paper must be in the format: YSI- ENEI_Topic of interest.

The paper and the motivation letter should not be identified by the author(s), and must be submitted in the same file.

Submissions to the YSI/ENEI Event are free of charge. Selected authors to this specific event will be exempt from the conference fee. We require authors to also inform if he/she would like to also submit to the ENEI main event if the paper is not selected for the YSI/ ENEI event.

Deadline: 10 June 2019.

●        Acceptance

The evaluation follows a blind review method. The major prerequisites for acceptance are completeness and relatedness to the required topics. Submitted work will most likely be considered if it is fully readable and does not lack substantial sections.

Financial support is available, although resources are scarce. Please indicate the need for funding in the application. In the case of acceptance, organizers will contact with details about the total amount granted.

●        Event

The event consists in YSI parallel sessions, in which young scholars will present their paper, receiving feedback from mentors/senior scholars who will previously read their work. The audience consists on the researchers and young scholars present in the ENEI event, and members from the local academic community. Young scholars will be grouped by research topic, presenting their work in parallel sessions. Each parallel session will be compounding by 3 presentations (40 minutes in total, with up to 20 minutes for presentation) with time available for feedback and questions reserved for mentors and the audience.
